BIO Dilyana Kirova, a native of Bulgaria, grew up in a musical family and started playing the bassoon at the age of 12. After graduating from the School of Music and Arts in Plovdiv (Bulgaria), she enrolled in the State Academy of Music in Sofia where she earned her Bachelor of Music degree. During several summers she attended master classes at the Prague-Vienna-Budapest International Summer Academy in Austria. She started her studies in the United States in 2003, as a recipient of a full scholarship at the Benjamin T. Rome School of Music at The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, where she received her Master of Music degree and she is currently working toward the Doctor of Musical Arts degree as a student of Truman Harris, Assistant Principal Bassoon of the National Symphony Orchestra.

Ms. Kirova is a prizewinner of several competitions, including the prestigious
Anton Reicha Competition in Austria, and the Contemporary Austrian Composers
Competition. She has recorded for the Bulgarian National Television and
Radio, and has performed as a concerto soloist in Bulgaria, Austria, and the
United States. Her professional experience includes positions as
bassoonist with the New Symphony Orchestra in Sofia, Bulgaria (2000-2002),
Principal Bassoon of the State Academy Orchestra in Sofia (2001-2003), and
Principal Bassoon of the Catholic University of America Summer Opera,
Washington, DC (since 2003). Ms. Kirova has performed at
the Kennedy Center in a
solo recital on the Millennium Stage, and in a series of concerts with the National Symphony Orchestra.
She has also appeared at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC. Dilyana is currently
a member of the Around the World woodwind quintet. She is presently
performing for the Washington Performing Arts Society and also is principal
bassoonist for the Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic. Ms. Kirova was
recently in London, where as soloist she performed the Mozart Bassoon Concerto with
the Corinthian Chamber Orchestra conducted by Alan Hazeldine. |
